Hanging Out at Home

Audrey enjoys reading to her dolls.  Gibby loves when it is story time.

Evan enjoys his remote control car on the back patio.

Simon has been given the go ahead to get back to normal activity.  He wants to run and fetch but I am still a little nervous about it so I tend to still hold him back some.  He is doing well on his new knee.  He has a permanent "twist" in his walk now and some lameness (this will pass) after being on it a lot but he seems to be pain free for the first time in over two years.  This is a good thing!  We have even managed to slim him down to the range his Vet wants him to stay in.

Gibby now has a new arch nemesis.  The lizards that live around our back patio.  He is obsessed with them and is constantly looking for them.  They taunt him by climbing up the wall just high enough that he can see them but can't reach them.  He has sniffed out one of their holes but they have since moved.  He continues to check it out everytime he is let out into the yard.

Oh What a Feeling..............

No one loves summer more than me.  Not even the kids I don't think.  My favorite time is when the pool first opens and we get to see other families that tend to end up just being our "summer friends".  Even though time has passed, it seems like we all pick up where we left off on Labor Day.  We have been coming to this pool since I was pregnant with Audrey.  I am even on the Board of Directors and I edit/publish the quarterly newsletter (okay, I do this to get a discount on our membership -- but most of the time I do enjoy it and I know we enjoy the benefit).  Today was our first day and it was like a homecoming.  We had  a great time but missed Daddy (who is probably having a great time with his friends in Franklin, NC).

Audrey passed her swim test for the diving boards..........her first cannonball of the summer.  She spent most of her time today jumping off the boards.  Press the "play" icon (the sideways triangle) and watch her big splash.

Third Grade Flea Market

This last quarter, the third grade studies Economics.  Each classroom has to run like a company.  Each child had to do a resume and apply for different jobs available within the company.  Evan got the job of Payroll Clerk.  He was very glad and enjoyed writing out the checks!  Each child earned money and also they were "fined" for various rule violations.  Their big project was to put together a flea market.  They bought tables, created store names and sold products.  Evan chose to do something based on his all time favorite thing, Legos.  We made lego cookies and candies.  He also talked me into letting him sell soda because he said "it is always the most popular seller".  He was right.  He sold out of his soda after the first two classes came through (16 cans!!!).  The entire school visits the flea market.  Evan sold out of 16 sodas, 22 bags of cookies and 25 bags of candy!  He was definitely his father's son.  I wish John could have been there to see him SELL!  He was very good at it.  Even selling one of each thing to the principal!  He named his business Bricks - 2- Bite.  Pretty good name, I thought.

VWs and other things....

Evan and John went to Mocksville, NC today to go to a Volkswagen Show and Race.  Anyone who knows Evan knows how much he loves VWs.  He was in heaven!  He also had his move up ceremony in Cub Scouts on Tuesday.  He has now gone from a Bear Cub Scout to a Weebelo.  BIG step for him and me as now I have to sew all his patches onto a new uniform.

Lacrosse

Evan played in a competitive lacrosse league this year for the first time.  He learned so much and John really enjoyed being on the coaching staff.

Random from the week

Audrey got her soccer trophy this week to wrap up a great season with the Red Warriors.

I was volunteering at Evan's school on Tuesday.  When I went in to his room at lunch, I noticed a girl in his class (Haley) spelled his name on her desk in pretzels.  Then she gave him her "most favorite" pen.  He is completely clueless of what is going on.  Poor girl.  Happy mom :0)

The time has finally arrived......

For the past three years we have attended Eastern Guilford High School's Talent Show.   Each year it amazes me that these teenagers have the guts to get up in front of their peers and parents and perform.  I am parital to my nephew Aaron's band, Sinthetik Insepshun, but can still appreciate the talent and courage it takes to step on that stage.

The last two years Sinthetik Insepshun has done well but never could quite grasp the brass ring.  This year was different.  I can not explain the anticipation as they called out the top three acts (out of 14) starting with third place.  I think we were all in shock for about 2 1/2 seconds after they said "the winner is.....Sinthetik Insepshun".  Not that we didn't believe they could do it, but that it had finally happened!  I am so proud of all three of them.  Not just for their talent but for their loyalty to each other, dedication and for never giving up.  They are awesome.

May 2

Audrey loves running around the yard before bedtime.  The boys had lacrosse practice so I watched as she ran around singing and dancing.  t makes me very happy that both of my kids would rather be outside than inside with video games or TV.  Even given the choice, they always choose outside.  Reminds me of how things were when  was a kid.
