Postcard

There isn't much that makes me more proud than to get something like this in the mail.  Sometimes, you just get that extra reminder that you are doing something right after all.

Fire Time

One of the kids most favorite thing about warmer weather is making a fire outside.  Evan has been working on building and starting fire in cubscouts so he did the honors tonight.  Simon is now allowed more freedom to wander the yard and he is loving every minute of it.

Big Day for Aud in the Pool.....

Our YMCA is notorious for its rigorous swim test and the coveted "green necklace".  In order to pass this swim test (which allows the child to swim in any pool in the city and utilize diving boards, deep water, etc) the child has to swim 25 meters freestyle, stop (do not touch the side!!) tread water for one minute, swim back 25 meters on their back, stop (do not touch the side!!) tread water for another minute and then swim back 25 meters with the stroke of their choice.  Our girl did it and passed with flying colors today!!!  She attempted it last week but touched the side on her first lap so she had to wait another week before attempting it again.  She is THRILLED!

All As.......again =)

Yet again Evan has made us proud by earning all A honor roll at school.  We sure are going to miss this fourth grade class and teacher.  I think this is the class I have enjoyed the most!

Baseball Season

Last night was Greensboro Academy night at the Greensboro Grasshoppers game.  It was a great time.  Audrey and her girls were hanging out in the stands while Evan and his buddies were standing by the fence hoping to catch a fly ball.  The night ended with fireworks.  Can't wait for summer!

Finally spring weather

The spring weather looks like it is finally here to stay.  Doing some practice shots in the backyard before I take some senior portraits for a friend's daughter next weekend.

Spring Break

So it is officially spring break this week for school.  We are trying to get together with good friends as much as possible.  Audrey and one of her best buddies, Meisha, had a playdate at Monkey Joe's today.  They jumped for over three hours!!!  Evan and Connor went along too but they stayed in the arcade area on their iPods.  I got to enjoy some adult time with my good friend (and mom to Meisha) Margie, which was quite fun.  Thanks for the invite!!!

Drying off the sweat with the bathroom hand dryer.....nice.

Another cruise has come and gone.......

We were fortunate enough to be able to take a cruise from Charleston to the Bahamas for five nights at the beginning of spring break.  It was perfect because the kids only had to miss one day of school as their break started early this year.  We had the best time on the Carnival Fantasy.  Evan made a quick friend named Houston within the first two hours on board.  I was grateful as he was a great kid and they spent just about every minute together exploring the ship, playing putt putt, eating.....lots of eating.  Audrey also made a friend within minutes.  The girl's name was Audrey so they had something in common right off the bat.  They planned their days together in Camp Carnival and by the water slides.  John and I, well, we actually relaxed by the pool for a looooooong time on both sea days.  That has never happened before.  It was quite enjoyable.  Our excursions were excellent.  In Nassau we got a day room at the Sheraton and it was wonderful.  There was a tragedy that occurred there, however.  We lost Bubby.  We looked for him and he was nowhere to be found.  Grammy said Bubby was lucky to be able to retire in the Bahamas!  It was a rough couple of hours but Audrey did so much better than I expected.  I was proud of her bravery. She found that my sleeping shirt felt and smelled just like Bubby (I don't know how to take that) so she slept with it and used it when she needed comfort.    At the Sheraton, Evan met up with some boys from the ship and enjoyed basketball and swimming.   In Freeport we took a great Kayaking excursion.  It was a six hour trip and ended with a long stay at a pristine private beach and then a nature tour.  The kids loved Mr. Sam our tour guide and stuck by his side the entire time.  There were tame raccoons all over the place (introduced by an American over 50 years ago and are now a nuisance to the eco system) and they even swim after the food that you use to feed the fish.  All in all it was at the top of our all time favorite trips.  Time for vacation hangover to kick in.  But then again, we have another planned for November so we can begin that countdown now.
